Condition B+: creases, abrasions and pencil marks in margins; minor repaired tears and restored losses at edges. Matted and framed. Steinlen was a cat lover and depicted cats in his drawings, posters and paintings throughout his career. Two of his posters, Lait pur Sterilise and Le Chat Noir, justifiably rank among the most famous turn-of-the-century images of cats. In 1909 Steinlen designed a poster for the 2e Exposition des Artistes Animaliers. Clearly taken with the image of the cat reclining on a cushion, Sagot had Steinlen design a second image of a cat in repose, and issued the two as decorative panels. Although familiarly known as the Winter Cat and the Summer Cat the panels were officially entitled L'Hiver: chat sur un coussin and L'Ete: chat sure une balustrade.
